It's official: Sydney is in the midst of a shoe revolution. Everywhere you look there is evidence that shoes, glorious shoes, are big news. At the opening of the Westfield city complex last month, it was the new shoe offerings that had local fashionistas worked up. On the marble-floored luxury level, Salvatore Ferragamo - the celebrity-favoured Italian fashion label founded on handmade footwear - has thrown open its gilt doors. A few doors up, the arrival of the first Sydney store for red-carpet shoe brand Stuart Weitzman for Hermanns was also cause for celebration. Specialising in a glam range of ballet flats, peep-toes, espadrilles and stilettos, Weitzman's shoes, which are stocked by some of the world's hippest department stores, such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Harrods, are also regularly spotted at the Oscars on the tootsies of red-carpet dwellers such as Jennifer Aniston and Eva Mendes.
